* Opportunity to assist with Food Pantry:  please bring paper products: toilet paper, paper towels, storage bags, aluminum foil, etc. for our Christmas Baskets

* School Supplies Needed ~  We are planning for our Upward Basketball sign ups and evaluations. During this event we plan to give out the backpacks we ordered last year, but we need your help. As you shop - please pick up glue sticks, pencils, crayons, a composition notebook or two, & spiral bound notebooks. Most of this is on sale now, if you are feeling truly blessed and generous, pick up a back pack and additional supplies for our Back to School bash next year.

* Pantry needs ~ Per Rev. Trish ~  I heard on the news this morning 1 in 6 families are needing help. We need to begin to stock our pantry. Items that are always needed: peanut butter, canned soups, tuna, beef stew ( in other words, something with protein)

* Our nursery is in the process of being totally revamped. This new nursery starts officially September, 2011. Marty Birt and Karen Allen are co-handling this new venture and request volunteers. There will be two people in the nursery each week to watch these precious children. We are practicing radical hospitality, and want new families, as well as current families, to be able to enjoy the morning services while their young children are safe, and taught about Jesus through loving care from our Cooper volunteers. All volunteers will have a background check. No two people can do it all. Please see Marty or Karen to sign up to play with these babies. How fun is that? Remember-- God said, "what you do for the least of them, you do for me."

* Have Devotion Will Travel Beginning in September we will have small groups visit the members who can't get out for Bible Studies. We hope to have 3 or 4 groups of about 3 people. A short devotion will be taken to share together and simple dessert. This will be a way for all to continue
their growth through fellowship with other Christians.

* Cards for Military and their families...contact the church office for more information

* Remember the weekly MISSION BOX! Be a part of outreach in our Cooper Community

* Cooper Memorial sponsors Cub Pack, Boy Scout Troop, & Venture Crew 190. Any boy 1st grade through age 20 is invited to become a part of this vital ministry. Contact Rusty Hudgel 338-0381 for more information.

* The Radical Hospitality Committee is looking for people to be hosts for the groups that use our building (ex.
scouts, line dancing, etc). You would be there to talk with the people and help if they need anything. If you are
interested or want more information please contact Rusty Hudgel.

 * The clothes closet at Christ Chapel needs towels for the workers. If you have more towels than you need, would you please put one or two in bag and leave them in the classroom across from the church office on Sunday?  Someone at the track probably needs "one."

FOOD PANTRY

Angie Edwards is looking for those interested in working with our food pantry. The goal for this ministry is to have food bags ready and sorted and ready to go when a call comes into the office. We need volunteers to sort and bag the food. Thank you to the many that financially gave during October. The total offering was $267.00, an excellent beginning! We know that as the tempertures drop and heating bills go up needs will increase. We want to be proactive. If you can spare an hour or so a month, please let Angie know. Please consider making a special offering towards this ministry each month. Mark your offering as "food pantry assistance". Note: we should have a lot of sorting after November 15 with Scouting for Food picks up their donations.

BLESSED TO BLESS OTHERS

“It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4.

But Jesus said to them, “They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat.”
And they said to Him, “We have here only five loaves and two fish.”
He said, “Bring them here to Me.”

I was asked to write about Sunday School and the Food Pantry. These verses seemed to cover it all. In the first verse, Jesus is talking to the devil who is tempting him to turn stones to bread because he knows Jesus is hungry. He’s been in the wilderness 40 days. It also, I believe, shows without a doubt, Jesus understood our physical needs. We are human; we need to eat, to drink.

We may only have two loaves and two fishes, but I believe if we will bring them to Jesus he will honor our request and he will multiply them. I believe if we get into his Word he will actually show us how that works. The best way to get into his word is to get in a Sunday School class or a small group Bible Study. If you don’t think we have one at Cooper for you, let’s talk. Let’s see what your needs are and were they can be met.

Oh, and by the way, in Matthew 4:4 Jesus was quoting the book of Deuteronomy. This is where the Charlie Daniels’ famous southern rock band gets the line Deuteronomy fought the devil. Paul says all scripture is useful, and I think he meant for more than just quoting. It’s there for our daily bread as well and there is enough to go around.
